Bridal appointments restarting

Image
https://www.damienvickersphotography.co.uk/ alicethecamera.co.uk  nicolacasey.photography  Hello! I hope you're keeping well and staying safe and sane. If you've spent lockdown planning your wedding, are thinking of choosing a bespoke wedding dress or outfit to wear and you're looking for a wedding dressmaker to realise it for you, you need to know that from 15th June 2020 I will be taking in-person appointments again! Thank goodness! These will be carefully spaced appointments (I'm talking days apart, not hours) and employing social distancing, plenty of hand sanitizer and facemasks where necessary and applicable. I realise that doesn't sound very pretty, but safety for us all is my primary concern, so I'm taking the reintroduction of appointments slowly and carefully. Please email me for appointment enquiries and for further information. I have compiled an information sheet which I can email you, explaining the format of appointments go...

Winter Luxe Wedding Ideas Styled Shoot

Image
Back in the autumn I took part in a winter luxe themed styled shoot organised by Songbird Weddings and Events at North Mymms Park and I'm really excited to show you the images taken by photographer Becky Harley . What I love about this shoot is the icey, cold, blue, wintery outside tones contrasted with the rich frozen raspberry & dark maroon colour of the flowers. Perfect colour choices for a winter wedding. The dapper menswear is by Chimney Formal Menswear and the styling is by The White Emporium . The shoot was also featured on the Whimsical Wonderland Weddings blog! The flower crown above was made by Love From Becky Hair by Claire Barbarella Make up by Belles Beauty MUA Gorgeous flowers by Rebecca Marsala Flowers . When Katie from Songbird weddings contacted me about the shoot, I hadn't actually made the dress, it was just a pale blue idea I had in my head. So I sent a sketch and they said yes! So schedules were rejigged and I got do...

Setting Intentions & Musings : Art not Industry

Image
For me, New Year always brings with it the setting of intentions or clarifying of thought, both personal and work based. A lot of it is just reminding myself of my business and what it is. That may sound daft, but micro businesses like mine need regular staff meetings - which means talking to myself and refocusing. So here's some recent thoughts about my wedding work. It's a bit stream of consciousness, but hey, that's how I roll sometimes! The wedding industry is part of the fashion industry and influenced by it. The pressures on women to look and behave in a certain way are immense and I try not to subscribe wholly to this, and to keep it real and authentic. In a recent interview in the Observer Magazine (16.12.18) stylist Grace Woodward said of fashion, “It’s an industry, not an art”, meaning in part that this is what it has become in the context of disposable, fast fashion and how it is promoted. Of course fashion has always been an industry and this ...

Summer Photo Shoot: Kallista Dress by Rachel Lamb Design

Image
Time has flown this year, and back in July the fantastic wedding photographer Sarah Brookes took some photos of some of my Collection dresses. The day was sweltering hot but we managed to find some shade somewhere! This first dress I'm showing you is modelled by Steph Swan and is called Kallista. It's a statement of a dress with a full ballgown shaped skirt with a strapless feathered bodice. The feathers are optional of course which completely changes the look from something quite humourous to a more traditional feel. The dress is made in a fabric called Zibeline and is available to view and order in my studio right now. This is a dress that your friends won't forget! Steph's makeup is by Flashkate MUA , her hair is by Becci Jones Hairdressing and her flowers are by the wonderful Florae Foray .

Wedding dress making spring & summer 2018

Image
Well...what a year. Quite a lot has happened this year, not only lots of weddings, but alongside these, the main thing that happened is I moved out of my unit and back to my home studio here in my garden, which is where I was working before I took on the unit. The unit was a short and sweet experiment, but sadly it just wasn't working for me or my business - far too much noise and very high heating bills were stressing me out, so I decided to cut my losses and come back to my original purpose built studio. It all happened unexpectedly fast in fact, back in March with 2 weeks notice, and as with all things wedding, the show must go on! So, I'm much happier now. My work space is peaceful again. I feel joy again! :-) My garden studio is smaller, but prettier, and I can concentrate! Bliss! I'm still doing what I do - designing and making wedding dresses of all shapes, sizes and designs for my lovely brides, so if you're looking for a designer - dressmaker to hel...

Something red

Image
Here's Dawn. She knew what she wanted and that was a red wedding dress, with some pleats and beading on it! So I set to and made it for her :) It was good to make Dawn's dress for her because apart from the pleasure of making it, it was nice to have a change of colour in my studio. Ivory is always lovely for wedding dresses, but this was a gorgeous rich red, which made a change for me and made Dawn happy! Dawn married her chap on a summer day in Ely (you can see the Cathedral in one of the images above) on one of the days when it wasn't raining, and the vibrant green of the well rained-on grass contrasts really well with her dress colour, I think. The pictures were taken by photographer John Wolfe, who very kindly sent these to me. You can visit his site here .
