Wedding dresses at a summer photoshoot

Image
As usual, it's been a busy summer! But I managed to squeeze in a photo-shoot of some of my dresses. I'm waiting for all the shots to arrive, but in the meantime here's a couple of behind the scenes action-shots of the day! Sarah Brookes is the photographer, hair by Thairapy Freelance , make up by Flashkate Bridal Make Up and flowers by Florae Foray .

Bohemian Dreams Bo Show Wedding Festival

Image
Well, we braved the arctic temperatures of the morning and happily the sun shone in the afternoon at the Bohemian Dreams Bo Show Wedding Festival  last Sunday! It turned out to be a great day of chatting with brides-to-be about their forthcoming wedding ideas, getting to know other wedding suppliers, and revisiting old friends. All of us had something in common, which is that we offer something a bit different, and that felt very good I must say! I was helped on the day by Lindsay and Michelle, and my ever faithful 'Logistics Manager' (Dan, my husband!) Thanks all for your help guys. Xxx Thanks too to the organisers whose idea it was to host this new style wedding festival. :-) L-R: Elsa wedding dress, Alexia wedding dress, (Lindsay setting up) & Beatrix wedding dress by Rachel Lamb Back view of Sylvie wedding dress by Rachel Lamb   Elsa wedding dress by Rachel Lamb Florence wedding dress back view by Rachel Lamb Tooley wedding dres...

March Work in Progress

Image
I'm not posting much as you can see. Too much going on at the moment - blossom blooming, garden demolition, designing and sewing. I've finished the dress I was talking about in my previous posts. Its turned out similar, yet different, from my original sketch, as is often the case. I've named it 'Sylvie' and it will go into my Collection once it's been priced up. It is made of silk chiffon and silk satin backed crepe, so it's lovely, flowing and soft. The ivory trims are Guipure lace in ivory. It's a wee bit Abigail's Party but I like that! This dress can be made in many, many colours, as well as all ivory, if you like. Guipure lace is big news at the moment for wedding dresses. Most of the gown bookings I've taken so far for this year that include lace will use Guipure lace.  The other big news is that work on my studio has started! I can't wait for it to be finished, naturally. It hasn't been...

Floaty chiffon summer wedding dress

Image
This is Rachel wearing her fabulous floaty silk chiffon wedding dress. Rachel had specific ideas about the exact colour of her dress, which she didn't want to be standard ivory. After deliberating over many shades we chose a kind of pinky-goldy-champagne (can't be more specific!) type of colour that worked very well with the off white crochet-lace trims. Out of necessity, the chiffon on the dress bodice is all hand pleated and hand-sewn.  Rachel was very sure she didn't want a twinkly dress or any bling of any sort, the dress was a simple design where the chiffon was used both to provide texture and wafty floatiness. But we decided to add some pearls and tiny silver glass beads to the trims as well, which gives a tiny gleam to the ensemble. As Rachel is tall she can carry off this hipster style of dress well. She looks stunning!

Smile : making

Image
The other day I received some photos from one of my recent brides, and they made me smile in a big way. They were just so her . After I'd looked through them I remembered that I'd taken pictures of her wedding dress throughout the process and that I'd taken quite a few. So as there are many images relating to this wedding and I would like to show most of them, I thought I'd break it up into a few posts. The shot above is of Tash, the bride and her new husband. I thought I'd put this one in first as, even though you can't see any detail, it has such a faded, atmospheric, summery charm to it. I love that they are in a wheat field :) I thought it pleasant to show you a romantic and wedding-y picture before going back to the nitty-gritty reality shots about the process of making a bespoke bridal gown. Ah, the glamour of calico, pen and pins. This is the under-layer toile of the dress - the basic shape made in cali...
