New Year, New Stuff!

Image
Happy New Year! I hope that whoever and wherever you are, you had a peaceful Christmas break. Our Christmas was a relatively quiet one, with much resurrection of old fashioned games, such as Happy Families and Pick-Up-Sticks, which was great fun and what we all needed I think. Who knew that a tube of wooden sticks could be so much fun?! And muddy winter walks. One of our favourite places to walk is Ickworth House , and the pictures below are from there, but I forgot my camera so these are from a previous January. It looked the same, only with even more mud this year! Anyway, I really wanted to thank all my brides and dress customers who have worked with me during 2013. THANK YOU so much for putting up with my somewhat erratic diary at certain points during the year, you really have been spendid! It was a challenging year because we became parents by adoption, for the first (and likely last) time, and as a natural consequence my workload was reduced so I could concent...

New bridal headbands

Image
No.4     No.1  No.2   No.3 Well I've been making some bridal accessories. What with making wedding gowns and the like, there can often be fabrics and bits of trims left over which causes me angst as I'm not always too sure what to do with them. I know I want to make something, but what exactly? This is often a dilemma for me. Probably because the majority of pieces are ivory. My brief for this type of thing is that it has to be reasonably quick to make, as this means reasonable price to purchase, and that I'll want to keep making them alongside the work intensive wedding dress side of things. Anyway, these fit my creative comfort zone. I hope you like them. They aren't priced yet, but will be soon, and these and others like them will be for sale shortly. More details on that in a while. In the meantime, if you do like them and want to know the price, just let me know. These are modelled by my chum Zoe who k...

A varied month of sewing

Image
It's been a busy few months of adaptation work wise. I'm someone who has always felt comfortable with entire open days of practical work time that enable me to really get my teeth into finishing something big reasonably quickly. With family around - school days and holidays, this isn't really feasible these days, so I've been practicing working within the time I actually have available. Sounds obvious doesn't it? But it's something that up until recently, didn't come easy to me. I really do have to practice it! However, recently my brain has started to slot things into place - prioritise - and it's becoming easier. What has happened is that shorter periods of time have enabled me to get on with some of the smaller projects I always have on the go and never finish, such as the headbands above. They are work in progress. These have been on the cards for a while as alternatives to headdresses or tiaras. I will find someone with a beautiful head...

Wedding bags preview

Image
I've started to make some accessories. I'll start by showing you the bags I've recently made. These are great for carrying the essentials - purse, keys, phone, tissues, small umbrella - that type of thing! They are what I always think of as 'bucket' shape. The bags are made in silk Dupion, some with lace trims and/or beading, and can be made to order, or in different shades. What do you think? The actual bag section is approximately 20cm tall and including the handle approximately 33cm. Great for brides, bridesmaids, and in darker colours, as evening bags. They will be for sale soon, I'll post where and when.

This week

Do you have hair that needs, or just would like, something pretty in it? Don't want a tiara or something that sticks up? Just something flattish and decorative? Something that could be good not only for bridal hair accessories, but also just general summer prettiness? I've been playing about with lace and come up with these. They are wired underneath so you can curve them around the shape of your head or make some bits stick out if you desire. These ones are sewn onto a hair clip, but I'm going to put some on bands as well. These pics don't show proportion as yet, but at the weekend I will photograph them on my sister's head (she doesn't know this yet) so you can see how big they are. The top one is ivory with some twinkles, and the lower one - which is bigger - is ivory with some fine gold thread and twinkles. I shall be putting them in my long neglected Folksy shop for sale asap, or I can sell directly to you, if you fancy one just drop me an email...

Just a few bits to see, on what for me is an emotionally tough day. More soon.

Shoe Sale

Image
At last I have got around to selling my remaining shoe stock on ebay ! Wonderful, nay, excellent quality shoes, all in their original packaging and completely unworn. They are drastically reduced because a) They are no longer current designs, b) I want my spare room back. Here's a taster of what's for sale For those of you not in the market for wedding shoes - just shoes, all the shoes I will put on ebay can be dyed to a colour of your choice, so are great for posh dos, evening wear and so on. Please do have a look :-)
