Lois & Ash: 70s style wedding dress for a late summer wedding

Image
It is my pleasure to show you images of this 70's style wedding dress worn by bride Lois last summer at her marriage to Ash. Lois arrived at her initial appointment with a few ideas that had a definite flowing 70's vibe, and after chatting through ideas and drawing some sketches, we looked at various suitable fabrics and came up with her gorgeous, relaxed design. The dress was made in an ivory silk Georgette fabric over a lightweight satin under-layer. The sleeves were left sheer using the Georgette only. The dress was left unstructured for a relaxed and easy boho wedding style. Lois and Ash had their wedding photos taken by photographer Matt Brown  and Lois carried flowers by Chloe at Bare Blooms . I loved making this wedding dress for Lois, she was a pleasure to work with and the dress was so 'her'. :) I have some further images of the making of this wedding dress to show in the next post. All for now. xx

Carolyn and Tom - a pretty springtime wedding.

This is the wedding of Carolyn and Tom, which took place in earlier this year in May. The blossom provides such a perfect backdrop for Carolyn in her dress. Carolyn's dress is made from a heavy silk crepe with a draped silk crepe Georgette overlay and sleeves. We incorporated some lace motifs around the middle of the gown which flow into a lace tie at the centre back. (A bit difficult to see the lace areas in these images.) All pictures are by photographer Jean-Luc Benazet . This image above shows how softly the neckline drapes around Carolyn's shoulders.

A '70's inspired country wedding

I've wanted to show you this dress for ages, because I really enjoyed making it! It felt like a real  creative collaboration between myself and the bride Sarah's family - especially her mum, who deserves a medal for going over and above the call of duty in the crochet department! I only have pictures of the later stages of the dress manufacture and the wedding, but the dress idea started from Sarah's mother's wedding dress which was from the 1970's and very of its time; it had quite a vintage hippy vibe to it, very free-flowing and made of cotton with embroidered areas, sleeves and flowery trim. I wish I had a picture to show you. Anyway, Sarah wanted to emulate the feel of that dress but with a modern feel which was more 'her'. This picture (above) of Sarah in an early fitting, shows her wearing the calico toile, which is perhaps closest in feel and look to her mother's dress, but without the embellishment. (That's my hand poking...
